I had some dreams ... they were klowns in my koffee.

(With apologies to Carly Simon)

This is my journey through job transition from a toxic environment to a better life. Join me for a few thoughts and a few laughs along the way.
What are "klowns in my koffee"? They are the factors large and small that make you less than you are. A "klown" can be a grossly incompetent boss,
a short-sighted policy or a moronic coworker. They won't kill you, at least not immediately, but they abrade the soul
as you scrape past them to get through the day. Sometimes it's best to dump them out of the cup.

Day 89 - Kaput

Daily Kup (What I Did On My Reality Vacation)
This was a day that wasn't. I had a headache and upset stomach -- it was almost like working at Porkus again.

I found an interesting Craigslist job opening: A female midget stripper. Finally, a job I'm too tall for. Check out Digital Satori's latest post for more on stripping. http://digitalsatori.net/blog/

Fresh Ground
Yesterday, I answered the doorbell to find a canvasser for MPIRG. I'm not that fond of people showing up at my door and wanting money, but I'm also sympathetic to anyone with a blue state mindset whose mothership lands them in my neighborhood at the corner of Rush and Limbaugh. MPIRG is currently working on some campaign financing reform issues in which I have an interest so we had an informative and lively discussion. Beyond the politics which are not the subject of this blog, my visitor mentioned that he had recently returned from New York where his band filmed a video. He looked like a guy in a band -- black T-shirt, tattoo "sleeves," a few piercings, and a crafted look that bridged shaggy and intense. Casual questioning revealed that the band's name is New Medicine and they have just gotten a contract with Atlantic. So we are not talking Guitar Hero.

I researched them on You Tube and elsewhere and think they have a reasonable chance of going far. Terry likened the sound to Papa Roach and I think the musicianship is solid.

The style and subject matter are more Gen Y.

Which is my way of saying that you probably don't want to play their music at work and, if you would prefer to avoid a double dip of profanities, then don't play it at all. This is one of their songs that might appeal to a wider group. I met the bass player, Matthew Brady. [Insert Civil War joke here]

If you like the sound, try the cuts "Like A Rose" and "The Takeover" (but not at work unless you work for rappers).

Demitasse
Who is the guy with the most time in the world? The guy who finds every You Tube music video and adds the comment, "Needs more cowbell."

Lil' Sistah:

Couple of things.. I like the New Medicine track! Will have to rememeber to get the CD/frisbe. Sounds like AWESOME music to mow the lawn when I wear the iPod.

Do you really think you live on the corner of Rush and Limbaugh?? I find that somewhat amusing. Here in the Great White 'Nort, Some consider me quite conservative. When I go down south, I frequently find I am the most libertarian person on scene. I was once threatened with grave bodily harm for even SUGGESTING that some folks at the Alamo fought to keep slavery legal in Texas. Still love the "new" South though, with the same fervor I did with the West 20 years ago.. Leave me alone, I'll leave you alone.

Hey, Corsair --
I should have provided more context as I was speaking specifically of my cul-de-sac. I vacillated over writing a post on the unique characteristics of my neighbors but decided to die a coward's death, given the eternal nature of electronic data and the fact that they don't need more excuses to not like me. Our own Mr. T who thinks that no one can see into the brightly lit picture windows has not helped that situation. The neighbor who makes the most attempt to be friendly is the lovely homeschooler across the street who finally has a moratorium on saving my soul. Still don't know which one called the cops [Not window-related]-- ask T because I wasn't even home. So, they don't play well with others, especially any hapless student going door to door. Knock-knock. Turn on the sprinklers.

H20town was much more stifling. Even the divine architecture couldn't make me go back. I don't feel marooned in the Midwest.

"Lies My Teacher Told Me" was a pivotal book for me. It's sad the way that history has been co-opted and sanitized for the masses into one long Thanksgiving pageant.

Ha! I should have been more clear.. I wasn't telling YOU to leave me alone, rather I was referring to the "live, and let live" ideal of the West. When I worked at a big outfitter in Colorado, we would occasionally have this old Cowboy from Wyoming come into the store (and I mean OLD. I think his driver's license number was "3"). He was the sort whom you didn't ask, "How are you doing today, Sir." Because if it was any of your damn buisiness how he was doing, he'd have told you..

I can respect that.

"Lie My Teacher Told Me" sits on my shelf right next to me. Kid 1 has already read it. A vital text for ctitical thinking.

I got what your comment meant. I generally interpret in the most positive way and then am SHOCKED in those few instances were people are actually trying to skewer me. That approach keeps my life more peaceful on the average.

Written language can be such a flimsy tissue for communication. A good friend from the old place and I used to exchange emails during the horrendous conference calls, mostly invective about the tripe we were being forcefed. Many times that last email said, "You know I didn't mean YOU, right?" And I knew that it didn't since we are all on the same team. Same here.

I did think it was important to note that it was the nutjobs on my block and not in the whole region whom I'm concerned will hit a canvasser on the head and drag him to the cellar for experiments.

Enjoy your weekend!
